How to Install WordPress Blog on Linux Web Hosting Manually

WordPress is the most popular blogging platform that is being used on the web to the date. WordPress started its journey just as a blogging platform and now it has become a complete Content Management System (CMS). More than 60 million websites are running on WordPress which itself reveal that it is the best CMS in the market.
Self-hosted WordPress website or blog runs on a Linux web hosting as it is in PHP with MySQL as the database for storing data in the form of various databases table. Today we are going to show you step by step how you can install a WordPress blog or website on a Linux Web hosting manually.

  1. Create an add-on domain for the domain name for which you want to install a WordPress blog.
  2. Create a MySQL database and a user associated to that database with full privilege.
  3. Download the zip file of WordPress software from WordPress.org
  4. Upload this zip file in the folder of the domain name in File manager.
  5. Extract all the files in the zip folder under the WordPress folder to your domain folder.
  6. Rename the wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php and enter the DB name, username and password that you created in MySQL database.
  7. Now just open the domain name in your browser you will see the WP installer.

  • Create an add-on domain for the domain name for which you want to install a WordPress blog.
    The very first is to create the domain name or the sub domain name on which you want to install the WordPress blog or website. After adding the domain name you will see the corresponding folder name to which that domain will point. You have to extract all the files to this folder and we call it as “Domain folder”.
  • Create a MySQL database and a user associated to that database with full privilege.

Create a MySQL database for your blog or website from the “MySQL database” option available in your cPanel under “Databases” tab. Also create a user for this database too. Add this user to the database and give full privilege to this user.
NOTE: Make sure you save the name of database, username and the password for that user in a separate file for the future reference.

  • Download the zip file of WordPress software from WordPress.org

You have to download the zip folder of WordPress for your self-hosted blog from WordPress.org

  • Upload this zip file in the folder of the domain name in File manager.

Just upload the zip file that you have downloaded to the domain folder in the file manager.

  • Extract all the files in the zip folder under the WordPress folder to your domain folder.

Extract all the files in the domain folder. After extracting you have to move all the files inside the folder named “WordPress” to your domain folder.

  • Rename the wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php and enter the DB name, username and password that you created in MySQL database.
    Replace the “database_name_here” with your DB name that you have created.
    Replace the “username_here” with your Username that you added to your database with full privileges.
    Replace the “password_here” for the username that you have set while creating the database.
  • Now just open the domain name in your browser you will see the WP installer.
